Raid your cleaning cabinet

A lot of everyday items in your home can be used to make your motorcycle look its best. Most of which the average home already has on hand. Here are a few favorites for motorcycle cleaning.

Use Fels-Naptha turned into a liquid cleaner can cut through grime and leave behind the perfect shine. This is a simple and cheap way to clean your motorcycle.

Steel wool is a great tool for getting your tires back in shape. Use WD 40 and some fine-grade steel wool to scrub down your tires and make them look new. This trick even works on white walls that can look dirty easier than on black wall tires.

Use a microfiber cloth

To leave a streak-free shine on your motorcycle you want to use microfiber cloths. These simple clothes are perfect for giving your bike a shine, applying leather protectants, and wiping away fingerprints or water marks. Everyone should have a stack of these on hand.

Treat your seat with leather protectant

Cleaning your seat with a leather protectant can keep your motorcycling in the best shape possible. After using leather cleaner apply a protector to help protect it from drying out in the sun or being damaged by the rain.

Plug holes before you start cleaning

Plug holes in different parts of your motorcycle. If you have to take something off of your motorcycle to clean make sure you plug or cover the holds form where it attaches before you start. The last thing you want to do is get water into an area where it doesn’t belong. You can use painter’s tape over screw holes for a quick fix to this problem.

Re-lube the chain after washing your motorcycle

Many cleaners are designed to break down grease and it does not discriminate in where it does this. Some parts of your motorcycle should have grease like the chain. After cleaning your motorcycle take a few minutes to ensure that the chain has enough lubrication remaining and add more if needed to be sure that your bike stays in tip-top shape.
